Following a drunken conversation with my good friend Huw we decided that we should both spend some time deciding what our top ten albums were. Having spent the time and effort compiling this list I thought I would share this info with anyone who cared to listen. Therefore have a look at the following – and post your top ten, thoughts or comments as you see fit.

Aphex Twin – Richard D James
Bob Dylan – Greatest Hits
Mogwai – Young Team
Pavement - Crooked Rain Crooked Rain
Plaid – Spokes
Ride – Nowhere
The Smiths – The Smiths
Stereolab – Mars Audiac Quintet
Suede – Suede
The Wedding Present – George Best
By the way the list is compiled in artist alphabetic order as it was tricky enough getting to this short list and couldn’t get my head around actually saying which is best and so on…

Can you write an album in a month? This month???

If so you are the perfect contender for the RPM Challenge.
Basically, its up to you to record an album of 10 previously unrecorded and unreleased songs within the month on February and then send it over to the US to be included in this most fabulous of challenges.
I’m certainly gonna have a go, being as I do not know if I can do it!
Heres a few others that are writing about the challenge:

…Then this looks like it might be an interesting starting point:

A little too far for me; although worth keeping an eye on for any follow on material from the event.

When you put together a MacBook, iPad, Ableton Live and Air Display app you can control your Audio Units and Virtual Instruments from your iPad touch screen.
The Air Display app for iPad allows you to extend your desktop onto the iPad screen – drag over an AU / VSTi and you get to control the parameters from your touchscreen wirelessly. In use Air Display is responsive albeit with some anti-aliasing. It provides you with extra screen real estate and allows you to pack another screen in your bag that can all happily run on battery!
If you happen to have the right collection of hardware then £5.99 for the app is a bargain and well worth experimenting.
Here is someone else doing something very similar: http://homemusicproduction.net/2010/05/29/air-display-for-ipad/
